In 1986 the F. Q. Story became Phoenix’s 2nd Historic District. The first was the Roosevelt Historic District, which had been disrupted by freeway construction. Today, out of the many neighborhoods in the central Phoenix area, the FQ Story is the one that is desired the most. The streets here are lined with Spanish Revivals, Bungalows, and Tudors that have been well kept dating back to the early 1920s. They all have either detached garages or a “Porte-cochere” along with impressive gardens and manicured green lawns.

In 1923, the residential development expanded, with an additional 13 homes being built. By 1926, the area had 113 homes. Each home costs a minimum of $5,000. The area introduced the Kenilworth School in 1920, and Franklin School was built in 1926.

Several of the oldest homes can be found in central Phoenix. These will average between 1300 and 1600 sq. ft., and generally, they will be 3 bedrooms with 1 to 2-baths.

Come join in with the Story Preservation Association, a non-profit group that started up in 1984, consisting of residents who live in the FQ Story District. They have home tours annually. You do not want to miss it!

If you are interested in the FQ Story neighborhood, you may also want to check out Encanto-Palmcroft and/or La Hacienda historic districts, as they both have many beautiful and picturesque homes.
